Leadership Practices of a New Secondary School Principal in Kuala Lumpur
Abstract
The aim of the study is to identify teachers' perception on leadership practices of a new school principal. Leadership practices include six aspects, i.e. (1) leadership style, (2) knowledge culture, (3) collaboration of ideas, (4) motivation and encouragement, (5) curriculum leadership, and (6) leadership empowerment. A survey instrument was employed a collect data from a group of school teachers (a randomize sample consisted of 50 respondents) concerning the leadership practices of the new school principal. Results indicate that the school principal is practicing the six aspects of leadership practices. However, the score of the leadership practices as seen by the school teacher was lower than the score of the leadership practices for an ideal principal. It implies that the principal needs to improve his leadership practices for school improvement and school effectiveness.
