Abstract

This study is conducted to review the differences of instructional leadership in teaching supervisions between a government secondary school and a private school. The objectives of the study were to identify: (1) the emphasizes in teaching supervisions, (2) the dominant approach used by instructional leaders in schools, and (3) the relationship between emphasizes in teaching and learning with the dominant approach used in supervisions. Data were collected by using questionnaire, interviews and observation techniques. A total of 19 school instructional leaders and 91 teachers have been purposively selected as the respondents. Findings indicate that only 213% of the respondents perceived that the government school principal's supervision approach is consistent with the instructional leader approach, while 31.8% of the private school teacher respondents indicated that the supervisions in the school are based on instructional leader approaches. Based on the findings, implications and suggestions for improving the effectiveness of teaching supervision were recommended.
