Model for Implementation of Co-curricular Management in Daily Secondary Schools

This case study is designed to explore the understanding of the implementation of co-curricular management at secondary school among 10 teachers who are involved as a group of co-curricular management in two states Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. This study was implemented based on management theories Stoner, Freedmen and Gilbert (1995) and also Gulick’s principle of management (1954) with minor alterations to fit the study needs. This qualitative study utilised the constant comparison method for data analysis. Data was obtained from in-depth interviews, direct observation and document analysis. The selection of participants was based on purposive sampling methods, in order to facilitate an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon in question. The analysis and data collection process were conducted simultaneously and continuously until data saturation was achieved. The result of the research showed that all participants have given their opinions about the implementation and also the process of co-curricular management at the secondary school. Generally, this study showed that there are eight aspects of co-curricular management understood by the group of co-curricular management in school to maintain the excellence co-curricular. They are planning, organising, leadership, control, training staff, report, money expenditure and also the relationship with society.
