“呆”医生与“丑”衙内——论宋元戏曲中两个类型角色的科诨表演 The Ignoramus Doctor and The Ugly Imperial Bodyguard: Two Types of Role on Buffoonery's Performance in Song and Yuan Drama
Abstract
In the Song and Yuan Dynasty's Zaju, the "painted face" and "clown" consistently played the major buffoonery's role. However, from the reading and analysis of text, we will find that these roles were regularly played by two types of characters, namely the ignoramus doctor as well as ugly "imperial bodyguard". This thesis attempts to place these types of role together, with QuanYuan Xiqu as the reading text, to analyse the social adjusting function, as well as the implication behind the buffoonery performances. This paper attempts to discuss the perspectives of deviation from its knowledge and logic on verbal humor and playfulness on physical performance, to reveals some common burlesque discourse and performance modes. and inner and historical context between these two types of characters.
