南洋新女性 悄凌与《南洋商报》妇女版 New Women of Nanyang Qiao Ling and the Women’s Supplement of Nanyang Siang Pau
Abstract
After the founding of Malaysia and Singapore, newspaper’s news coverage showed a remarkable variation in terms of materials, areas and inclination of focus. In contrast, the localisation of supplement is a relatively long process. Based on the discussion of the women’s edition of Nanyang Siang Pau in the late 1980s and early 1990s, this essay discusses how the editing strategy of chief-editor Qiao Ling created the “new female” image.
