Abstract

This study is aimed at identifying the level of work readiness among vocational and technical students, as well as to explore the factors contributing to work readiness. The sample for the study consisted of 474 vocational and technical students from Industrial Training Institutes. The respondents were requested to complete a questionnaire on a voluntary basis with the help of the counsellors in the Industrial Training Institutes. The instrument used in this research was the Work Readiness Inventory (2010). Analysis of the data was computed using the Statistical package SPSS. Results of the study indicated that gender, having received counselling related to career issues and working experience do not show significant impact on work readiness. However, the students who have had counselling related to career issues show a higher mean in work readiness compared to those who never meet with counsellors for career issues. The factor, level of study, showed significant impact on work readiness. The finding also indicates that the level of work readiness among vocational and technical students is moderate. Implications of the study and suggestions for further research are also discussed.
