Abstract

This study presents a review of research on the use of augmented reality (AR) in Chemistry education. AR has emerged as a valuable pedagogical method that enhances the understanding of complex concepts across various educational levels. The findings of this study highlight the active utilization of AR technology in chemistry education and its proven effectiveness. Typically, AR technology is employed for the 3D visualization of atomic or molecular structures in the field of chemistry. However, there is a lack of AR software or applications specifically tailored for Chemistry education in Malaysia. There is a pressing need for easily accessible AR applications that can be developed without requiring advanced programming skills, to support chemical education in schools and higher education institutions. The exploration of AR technology holds undeniable value in Chemistry teaching and learning, as it has the potential to revolutionize chemistry education by promoting active learning, enhancing interest and motivation, and fostering students' mastery of chemical content and overall performance. The study concludes with the importance of developing AR-based chemical education, along with recommendations and directions for future research.
